Sakura Hirata has worked in K-12 and postsecondary institutions within international education for more than ten years. Under her current role as a Marketing and Recruitment Specialist, she focuses on recruiting international students from Japan and African countries. She is an advocate for an inclusive environment for the diverse array of students on campus. As an advocate for inclusivity, Sakura has spearheaded the development of programs aimed at supporting under-represented students and expanding their opportunities to study abroad. She serves as a member of the Equity and Diversity and Inclusion committee at Okanagan College where she also leads the anti-racism subcommittee. She is pursuing her Master in Social Justice Education where her research focuses on internationalization and mobility with emphasis on equity, diversity, inclusion and cultural competency training. Her commitment to raising awareness about mental health highlights her holistic approach to creating a supportive academic atmosphere.
