Growing up in a multicultural environment on the coast of Mediterranean in Turkey, Gulcan developed a passion for understanding and learning about different cultures through immersion in languages, literature, history, and politics. Following this passion she guided her personal and educational development by learning English at the age of 10, and later obtained a degree in Public Administration from Faculty of Political Sciences at Istanbul University. Before moving to Victoria in 2005, she gained significant experience in international education and marketing. She has a Certificate in Business Administration and a Master’s of Education in Educational Leadership from University of Victoria with her research thesis focused on access and student retention at community colleges in BC. While working on her master’s degree, she also successfully established an award-winning education consultancy, but decided to dedicate her career to advising international students at a community college setting. For the past five years she has been leading the International Student Services Team at Camosun College supporting our students and colleagues alike. She is a Registered Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC) who has more than 15 years of experience in Canadian international education, immigration issues as it relates to international students, and student services.
