Name
Beyond Graduation: Understanding International Graduates’ Transition to Work and Life in Canada
Date
Tuesday, June 24, 2025
Time
2:00 PM - 3:00 PM (PDT)
Description

International students choose Canada for its reputation as a safe, high-quality education destination that promises strong post-graduation opportunities. Institutions and policymakers promote Canada as a place where students can build their futures—gaining valuable skills, accessing meaningful employment, and finding a welcoming community. However, there is a critical knowledge gap when it comes to understanding whether international students’ post-graduation experiences align with these promises. Are they securing jobs that match their qualifications? Do they feel supported in their transition to the workforce? Are they finding opportunities that justify their investment in a Canadian education? Research shows that students increasingly evaluate study destinations based on the tangible returns they can expect after graduation. This session will present key findings from two recent research projects that CBIE implemented — aiming to better understand international students’ experiences in Canada after graduation, the challenges they meet, and how they are supported by their institution and their community in transitioning into the labour market.
