Bio
Jas Uppal Hershorn is an experienced educator who is committed to inviting educators and youth to become more of who they are. In teacher education, Jas is passionately driven by recognizing that nurturing teachers’ capacity, consequently, supports student’s well-being and learning. Her experience includes K-12 teaching of science and math, and mentoring pre-service teachers at the school level, teaching and mentoring re-certifying teachers and pre-service teachers in international teacher education. She has also taught and led in-service teachers at the school district locally, and internationally and developed programs such as a STEAMx program and a district mentoring program in Surrey Schools. Currently, Jas supports practicing teachers through scholarship and inquiry in the faculty of education. She takes pride in nurturing relationships, and examining practices informed by scholarship to build teacher capacity.
Jas is committed to making meaning of her practical experience. Her doctoral research reflects one of her many passions - exploring possibilities beyond what “is”, in other words, how else can we be in this world? Jas is grateful that with the range of practical and scholarly experiences her understanding of learning, teaching, mentoring and leading has broadened and deepened.
