Mami Schouten is the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Research Officer at the University of Victoria (UVic), supporting the Vice President Research and Innovation as well as the Office of Equity and Human Rights Office. Throughout her past 20+ years of employment at UVic, she has taken various roles in the field of International Education, Co-operative Education Programs and EDI initiatives.

Her professional commitment is to maximize an organization’s capacity to become an inclusive environment for all stakeholders by ensuring the EDI values are embedded in daily practices.

As a racialized woman, she has first-hand experience in what it is like to be marginalized and also appreciates her own privileges in different aspects.
