The Student Voice: The Latest International Student Research
Date
Tuesday, June 25, 2024
Time
3:30 PM - 4:30 PM (PDT)
Description

This session will explore findings from IDP’s latest large-scale international student survey -- Emerging Futures 5 -- analyzing the motivations, perceptions, and concerns of international students and providing attendees with a robust understanding of current international student mobility trends. New in this round of research, we ask respondents about who influences their choice of study destination, how they select their program of study, and more. In addition to overall data and trends, IDP presenters will dive into implications of the data for Canadian institutions, and how the results have changed since previous iterations of this survey. Attendees will also hear from an institutional presenter who will share their perspective on the data, how it manifests in practice, and any room for improvement highlighted by the survey results. Presenters will share actionable insights that institutions can use to inform admissions and recruitment strategies.

Learning Outcomes
  • Describe international student attitudes, motivations, and key drivers behind their study decisions, based on the survey responses of thousands of international students from dozens of countries.
  • Understand student perceptions toward the main destination countries and how those perceptions are influenced by geopolitical and policy changes.
  • Apply insights from the research to recruitment and admissions strategies at attendees’ own institutions, using practical examples from Kwantlen Polytechnic University.
