Description

Supporting students as they transition from the classroom to the workforce is an important component of international student services. Join this session to hear from students, staff, and faculty and learn strategies and opportunities for facilitating a positive transition from the classroom to the workplace. This session will emphasize the importance of a holistic approach that integrates academic knowledge along with practical and soft skills to empower students in their professional aspirations. We will also consider how to support students in learning to value and articulate their existing, diverse and transferrable skills and experiences. We will explore strategies such as specialized curriculum, work integrated learning, mentorship programs, and industry partnerships that are designed to provide students with real-world experience and insights into professional expectations. We will look at how a positive transition involves integrating career readiness into the curriculum and providing career guidance to empower students to make informed career choices. Additionally, we will explore methods for fostering a growth mindset among students, encouraging them to embrace challenges, learn from failures, and continuously improve.
