How is BCCIE contributing to environmental sustainability?
How is BCCIE contributing to environmental sustainability?
BCCIE’s role in contributing to environmental sustainability extends far beyond BCIEW, but we are focusing on several key initiatives to further our commitment during the conference:
- In preparation for BCIEW 2025, we are refraining from printing whenever possible.
- We have optimized our website and mobile app to give you an easy and efficient digital experience, making paper unnecessary.
- We are not using plastic sleeves around name badges to limit plastic waste.
- Our hotel key cards will be made from wood to reduce single use plastics.
- We have decided, once again, to make Monday, June 23, Meatless Monday to help reduce the carbon footprint impact of the conference.

How is our BCIEW venue contributing to environmental sustainability?
The Fairmont Chateau Whistler was first certified by Green Key Global in 2017 and has renewed this certification yearly. Some of the initiatives their sustainability team have implemented include:
- Eliminating non-essential single-use plastics with the goal to make the hotel completely plastic free by 2030.
- Donating leftover soap, linens, and discarded items from guest rooms to Soap for Hope Canada, which distributes these items to community centres to support vulnerable populations.
- In addition to creating sustainable menus and participating in the Ocean Wise program, the hotel utilizes an AI powered technology, Orbisk, to help reduce food waste.

You can also play a vital role in contributing to environmental sustainability at BCIEW 2025.
- Consider taking public transportation or carpooling with others to reduce your carbon footprint. We also invite you to share your eco-friendly travel experiences on social media using the hashtag #TravelwithCANIE.
- Reuse! Bring a reusable water bottle and coffee mug to reduce the number of plastic bottles and single-use cups.
- If you are a sponsor or exhibitor, we encourage you to drastically reduce the amount of swag you distribute, or even better, not have any. Swag is often wasted and ends up in landfills, leading to negative environmental impacts.
- While at our host venue, please comply with all recycling and waste disposal signage.
