Description

Transitioning to a new country for studies can be both a thrill and a trial for international students. The African proverb, “it takes a village” rings especially true when it comes to supporting new students as they embark on this transformative journey far from home. This session will explore how peer mentorship, as a key aspect of student support (the “village”), can ease this transition and create a supportive, inclusive environment. Highlights will include the unique benefits of this evolving program tailored for international students and how it has been adapted over time to meet their changing needs. Delegates will learn about the practical aspects of implementing such programs and hear success stories from international students who have benefited from them.

Learning Outcomes
  • Gain insight into how a peer mentorship program in an educational setting can support new international students in their transition to studying in Canada, fostering a sense of belonging and community
