8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. | International University Rankings – Scope, Methodology, Engagement, and Intelligence | This workshop provides a sweeping discussion of international rankings: History, data, methodologies, reliability, politics, and utility. Information will be provided with a focus on the quality and relatability of data and analysis – and how even at times low quality data and analysis can be instructive. Case studies illustrate how universities have progressed or regressed in specific rankings or on specific metrics, and how said occurred. Teams of participants will be asked to design their own institutional rankings strategy, and present it to all participants. 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. | Student Recruitment: A Deep Dive | This workshop will explore how to use data to enhance student recruitment from many perspectives. The discussion will begin with a bird's-eye view, looking at the strategic priorities of major destination countries and how these impact student demand for Canada. It will then focus on the findings of IDPs latest research report on prospective international students, Emerging Futures. Following this, the presenters will look at how to market programs that address labour market gaps to new audiences and tell the story of opportunities in Canada. The afternoon sessions will examine step-by-step tactics on how to write a persuasive brand story for your institution that will resonate with prospective student. Finally, we will finish the day with a hands on workshop that will teach you how to implement an effective digital marketing strategy that supports your institution.

8:45 a.m. - 11:45 a.m. | BC Government International Framework | The Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Training, in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Child Care, will preview BC’s new IE Framework, a roadmap for government and the sector to retain BC’s share of international students to support economic recovery and benefit to all of BC’s communities, support positive outcomes through diversity, regional growth and global experiences and implement policy shifts that support system integrity towards quality, transparency and student success. A formal presentation will be followed by discussions on diversification, regionalization and student success. Thank you to the B.C. Government for supporting this session.

1:45 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. | Building Inclusive Higher Education Partnerships with the Philippines towards a Sustainable Future | This session provides BCIEW participants the opportunity to learn about the strategic priorities of the Philippine government with respect to internationalization, including efforts to align internationalization outcomes in higher education delivery and collaborative research with the UN Sustainable Development Agenda 2030. The Philippine government, represented by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), will also present on other specific areas of interest in higher education delivery such as lifelong learning or adult education, indigenous education, and COIL, as well as an overview of opportunities to collaborate with Philippine higher education institutions in agriculture, nursing and innovation. The Commission will also share their successful practices on building a domestic network of higher education institutions or community of practice on internationalization to strengthen opportunities for foreign institutions to collaborate with Philippine higher education institutions. After the presentation, BCIEW participants will have the opportunity to participate in a networking session (one-on-one meetings) with over 30 representatives from Philippine higher education institutions. As a profession we have a strong record of collaboration and sharing our best practices to enhance our services. After conferences we return “home” ready to introduce some of our newly learned approaches. From members of faculty to the Registrars Office, from Student Services to Finance, how do you convince colleagues to shift their current thinking and practice? In this workshop we will examine how utilizing Change Management principles can decrease resistance and use a Four Frames approach to better tailor our strategies to fit the values and expectations of various stakeholders. We will use case studies and group exercises to apply and better understand these approaches and participate with a panel of IE professionals who seek to generate “a great place to work” mentality in their departments. What does that mean for education abroad? With a focus on the Administrative Framework section of The Forum on Education Abroad’s Guidelines for Advancing the UN SDGs through Education Abroad and Goal 13, Climate Action, this workshop will address how to integrate climate change measures into all aspects of education abroad programming, educate stakeholders on climate change mitigation, and set goals across institutions and organizations. 8:30 a.m. - 11:45 a.m. | Global flows of international students over the next ten years - what to expect | Where will students come from in the next ten years? This question is critical for student recruitment, source country strategy and diversification considerations across the higher education sector in Australia and globally. However, there is relatively limited information on the long-term drivers of global demand for international higher education. The session will present research undertaken by Navitas on the long-term outlooks for international student mobility up to 2030, presenting insights based on key underlying economic, demographic and participation drivers. They will present what this means for overall global student flows, key source countries (such as China and India) and major international education destinations. 8:30 a.m. - 11:45 a.m. | (Day 2) Mexico/Canada Forum and Networking Event | BCCIE has been building partnerships and facilitating academic collaborations with colleagues, institutions, and associations in a number of Mexican regions. Much of the focus has been with partners from the Bajío region (west-central), including Jalisco, Guanajuato, Aguascalientes and more recently with Northeastern states. In collaboration with Canada’s Trade Commissioner Service and Languages Canada, we are delighted to welcome a delegation from key Mexican state government departments, where we will explore and advance Mexico/Canada academic partnerships, mobility and exchange, and opportunities for Canadian engagement in capacity-building and professional development initiatives in Mexico, particularly in the area of language education. 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. | (Day 2) 2-Day EAIE Workshop: "The Fundamentals of Building a Strategic Internationalization Plan" | Join some of the top international education trainers to enhance the performance of your department and broaden your experience and training in international education. In the fundamentals of building a strategic internationalization plan course, you’ll be guided through the entire process of creating and implementing a successful strategic internationalization plan at your institution. You’ll learn the steps to take for each phase of strategic planning, pitfalls to avoid, key stakeholders to involve, diagnosis to include, how communication is a key factor, and how to monitor and evaluate your institution’s progress. You will learn from relevant case studies and from a range of hands-on exercises. It is strategic planning made practicable, and by the end you’ll be ready to take action upon returning to your institution. Two-day participation is a requirement.
